Derek Eagle launches the County Town Farmer's Market - Jun 07

Derek Eagle has launched Maidstone's own Farmers' Market which is being held on the fourth Saturday of each month outside of County Hall, next to Maidstone East Station.

Derek Eagle: "Maidstone has needed a town centre farmer's market for a long time and it great that we can now begin to benefit from local produce. Local food is far more ecologically sound that food shipped from afar. Local food also supports local farmers and businesses, for each £10 spent on local food generate £24 for the local economy - when £10 is spent at a supermarket only £14 is generated for the local economy.

"Farmers markets also help connect people with the surround area. Kent is the Garden of England and the County Town should be the hub of this garden. The farmers market will help people to understand the key relationship that we have with our countryside and seasons.

"I am proud to have been able to bring local producers regularly into the centre of Maidstone!"
